TAG Industrial Watch: October 4, 2025
With the federal government in shutdown mode over budget funding disagreements, the usual release of the September jobs report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics is delayed. This puts the spotlight on the monthly National Employment Report published by the private payroll services company ADP. Based on the ADP report, the private sector contracted in September, losing -32,000 jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis. The tough news continued with a revision to August that changed the initially reported addition of 54,000 jobs to an actual loss of -3,000, making September the third contraction in the last four months. The recent jobs data is not just another sign of recession, but one of the most important indicators of the state of the economy. Industrial owner-users should also take the job numbers as a sign to prepare in case of economic challenges ahead. With industrial property values still at record highs, perhaps the best way to prepare is through a sale-leaseback that can turn a company’s biggest asset into working capital.
