TAG Industrial Watch: April 17, 2020
“Behind the hot industrial market, cold storage facilities have been one of the best performing subsectors, and its development is just getting underway. Just like “big box” warehouses, the pandemic further increased the demand for automated cold storage facilities as online grocery shopping took off. While these facilities can be as large as 375,000 square-feet with 60-foot clear heights, micro-fulfillment centers (MFCs) as small as 10,000 square-feet are also being developed in urban areas to speed up delivery times. An automated MFC is 10 times faster than manually fulfilling an order with in-store shoppers (Globe St.). This level of efficiency is attracting even the largest grocers in America such as Kroger and Walmart to invest heavily in cold storage facilities and MFCs.” -Adam Abushagur
